Monidip Das Sumon

Monidip Das Sumon (born in-1979) is a Junior Research Fellow in Theatre under Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India) and an eminent theatre practitioner of Tripura. Monidip started doing theatre in his school life at Karimganj (Assam) & acted in more then 25(twenty five) plays till today in the various places of India and Bangladesh. He has directed some plays namely ‘Surya nei swapno ache’, ‘Bhoy’, ‘Mahabidya’, ‘Buribalamer tire’, etc.

‘KORNO’ (written by Sri Debesh Thakur) is a very polular solo performance of Monidip which is also directed by him and staged in various prestigious Theatre Festivals in India.

He is the founder president of theatre group ‘Learners Educational Society’ and the founder Editor of NATYAMANCHA (A Theatre magazine) which is run under NATYAMANCHA Trust. Under his guidance, the Learners Educational Society of Dharmanagar (Tripura) is regularly organizing Theatre Workshops, Theatre Performances, Cultural Programmes, Seminars and International Theatre Festival titled ‘NATYAMANCHA NATYUTSAB’.

He has also received the ‘Biresh Smriti Smarak Natya Samman’ from Sanskritik Aikyamancha, Kadamtala, (2015), KATHACHITRA Natya Samman from Katha Chitra Theatre Group (2017), Nandadulal Smriti Samman from Natyabhumi, a prestigious Theatre group of Agartala (2018) for his dedication in theatre.

Monidip has also participated as an observer in the prestigious ‘Srestha Bharat Sanskritik Samaroh’ at Bhubaneswar (Odisha) in the year 2018, organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi (New Delhi).

The name of some play in which he acted are MAHABIDYA, KEDAR ROY, KOILU FOOL, NIRBAN, AFRICA, ISHAN KUMARIR MANDASS, OCTOPASS LIMITED, GHOTOTHKACH, HAMLET, OMANISHA, RAJSINGHA, JASHOMOTI, BHALOBASAR ISKUL, HARANER BOOT JUTA etc.
